If I've learned nothing else during my journey the past several months, it's that people want independent thinkers in Congress, they just won't vote for them for fear of splitting the vote and their candidate losing. The entire country is locked into either one side or the other, progressive or regressive. Which leaves 6% of us making the decisions for the rest. I do understand, because most of my life, until Obama and Elizabeth Warren came along, I too voted for the lesser of two evils. But by doing so, we end up with the same result all the time, career politicians who have no clue how the majority lives. That's a difficult river to cross and I don't know how you change that one hurdle.
In collecting my petition signatures, most who did sign them jumped at the chance when I told them I was an independent. A true independent! The problem with that is that unless you align yourself with one party or the other, you accomplish nothing! Balancing the two is difficult, because I see no promise with the Republican Party these days, and haven't for quite a few years. They are a regressive-thinking party hung up on maintaining their upper place in the societal ladder! And, the Democrats are not much better. They talk a good story, but a lot of the time they are stymied by Republican stonewalling and cave with less than what we want. The answers to all our problems are really very simple, enacting them is next to impossible. Tax the wealthy instead of GIVING them all of OUR money. They don't need it, we do! Everyone keeps yelling about the Blue Wave in November, which is great. But by doing so, you are right back to where we started. While I do agree the Dems are much more desirable and we MUST do it, I am disappointed that many GOOD candidates get thrown to the curb because they don't have a party apparatus behind them with the money and knowledge to get them elected. We at this point are on our last legs, when all our Congress has accomplished in the past year is to pass a tax bill that stinks like rotten garbage and to spend the rest of their time investigating scandals and corruption or raising campaign funds for the NEXT go-around, or rolling back all the common-sense regulations that keep our air, water , and land clean. We're running out of time and all these jerks are doing is blocking anything beneficial to the average American! It's downright asinine! We must find a way to demand of our government that they return to " government of the people, by the people, and for the people" Nothing else will do! If it takes 10 million people in the streets across this nation to do it, so be it. We have proven that we can muster 5 million, why not 10? Why can't we, as independents, find a way of funding promising independent individuals who can change this? Where are all the deep pocketed independents? Oh, I forgot, if they've got deep pockets they're all Republicans. Tom Steyer, we need you and your millions to help indies get on ballots! Someone posted to me that inspiring words are great, but get involved, run for office, etc. I've done that, but at this point all I have left are inspiring words and hopefully they will inspire others to do what they can. May peace be with you #Resist2018 dennismoconnor.com Comments are closed.
