I was talking to a young man tonight who had just finished a 20 mile bike ride, who had walked several portions of the Appalachian Trail and climbed Mt. Katahdin. We had much in common, but when I started to talk about climate change, he was in full agreement about the situation. Many people (too many) do not believe that it is happening, yet complain about how hot this summer has been. I don't get it, what's not to believe?
We have reached a point in time when we are on the verge of catastrophe and the end of life as we know it on Earth and yet don't want to admit that we have screwed up. We continue to follow the same path to destruction. The Fascists are gaining control again, like we didn't learn the last time, yet they think they can take it with them, that it won't affect them, just others. That's not the way it works! The atmosphere dies, we all die! Supposedly we have about 10 years to make drastic changes to the way we live and the resources we use. In today's political climate, it's not going to happen. In fact, it has already gone beyond the tipping point in many cases. This June was the hottest ever recorded, yet people say it's normal to have these "fluctuations". Siberia is burning, for crying out loud! What more proof do you need? Florida will be under water in 30 years, as will New York and many other coastal states. An ice shelf the size of Texas is about to break off because of polar melting. Where are you going to live when millions decide to move back north? I have simply given up on trying to understand many peoples thinking processes. Ya'll have a great day and may peace be with you the rest of the way. dennismoconnor.com Comments are closed.
