As I listened to Barack Obama give the eulogy for John Lewis, I realized many things that I miss by not having him around. #1 of course is his ability to give a cohesive and pointed speech. The man is probably the most eloquent speaker I have heard in my lifetime, mostly because he doesn't waste his words on trivial points that make no difference. In his eulogy, he recognized John Lewis for who he was and how he dedicated his life to the cause of liberty and justice for all.
It is time that we all recognize the fact that People of Color contribute a great deal to our well-being and have for generations. Some of our best scientists. and inventors were black. To simply say that you, by way of the color of your skin are superior to anyone, is totally ridiculous. How would you judge someone if you didn't know their skin color? By the words that come out of their mouth? By their actions toward others? Or do you simply feel you are superior because you are white? I simply don't understand the thinking behind this. To hear the words that came out of Barack's mouth was beauty in itself and he pointedly brought out where we are in relation to how badly this country has been damaged by the Republicans presently in office. This must be stopped and I mean stopped cold in it's tracks. Herman Cain, a black man, dead in his tracks because he denied Corona. I have had many wonderful moments in my life, last night was another in that chain. Gage and I camped in the front yard, for our first time camping. We had a fire, cookies and popcorn, telling stories, just sharing love. I have felt so much love both from and towards Gage this past 2 months that I can't imagine anything better. I must have done my life right. That little man adores his Papa and his Papa adores him. Today has been a very emotional day so far for me. I have the love of Gage and the love of my wife. I truly feel sorry for people who can't find that sense of peace that love brings to you. This is no time for anger and hatred towards others, yet that's where we have gone. I never really had true peace in my life until about 3 years ago when I turned 70. Many things came together at the same time to change my life forever. I found inner peace. I say I am a very fortunate man because I have 3 loving women in my life, my wife, our daughter, our granddaughter, and 1 great grandson . I would not change it for the world! All I can wish for anyone is that you may sometime in your life feel that inner tranquility. I love all of you and will always be there for you, if not in life, in spirit. To start with, I am considered to be a white male, although I am not white but rather a shade of pink and brown. Like most humans, we are a shade of brown, like it or not.
I hear so many arguments for and against Black Lives Matter-- That All Lives Matter, that Blue Lives Matter and so forth, totally missing the point. Black Lives Matter is about grievances that have endured in this country since it's inception, mostly by blacks and Native Americans. You say I didn't do that to anyone, that it was hundreds of years ago. Why should I care? You should care because the system we have in this country today and for the past 400 plus years has been weighted against ANYONE who isn't "white"! We talk about white privilege and the advantage it gives to "white folks", not even thinking of it in our daily lives. It does exist! I cannot think of one "white" person who would ask for, much less endure, the tragedy of the existence of people of color in the United States of America. And the sad thing is, it will probably never change until we have a mass uprising like we are finally seeing today, where blacks and whites stand together against racist views and bigotry. We will not endure as a nation until it is addressed. Blacks did it in the sixties and paid with their blood. But they accomplished the passage of the civil rights act. Yet White Supremacists cannot allow that to stand. DJT and his cabinet are attempting to turn back the clock on ALL People of Color. DHS, ICE and CBP have become the modern day Gestapo at the command of Barr, tRump, Kushner and Stephen Miller, with no one being able to reign them in. It must be stopped before it is too late. The citizens of Portland, OR are doing what we must all do. Tell them to all go to hell and fight fire with fire. The civil war #2 has officially begun. I want to write about the joy of being a great grandfather to a child that considers you his ace in the hole, his rock, his Papa! I have had Gage with me for 5 weeks now and it's closing on the time for him to go home to Florida. I am definitely going to miss the presence of that young man waking me each morning with a bright smile on his face and a "wake up, Papa", knowing full well that you get to spend that day with him. We have formed a bond much stronger than we had before he came here, because he trusts me to teach him. He has formed a much stronger bond with his Gigi. But back to the great grandfather bit. I have built confidence in him, that he can do much more if he tries. I have built trust, that I know what I am talking about. But most of all is that loving bond that I never could have imagined would happen in my life. We are true "Buds". And today I gave him a little more throttle on his Gokart. When I asked him tonight what did he like best about his Gokart, he said "I can go fast"! To watch the smiles and raised thumb as he speeds past me, that is my love. I spent the entire day, not necessarily every moment, but the entire day with my great grandson. I spent the evening (a Tuesday nonetheless) with my spouse! I am a very fortunate man. They both love me dearly and I in return love them. To me, that is what love should be. And to think that I have been fortunate enough to experience that for the past 41 years is, in itself, a beautiful thing! I find it sad that we have veered off track so badly in this country that we find hatred is a good thing. I don't hate, never have, never will. Despised yes, hate no. When I tend to get a writing subject, I don't really try to offend people. But sometimes they need to be offended, if only to wake them up to reality. People are so sensitive these days, so easily offended. But all I try to do is inform. I read, I observe. There is a great deal wrong these days that people don't want to see, but is there nevertheless. I know of no way to reach these people, who vote not on the entirety of the needs, but on one misguided thought, not researching the remainder. Life is never going to be easy, but this is by far the worst period of my life I have ever experienced. But I still have that love from my family and that's all I need! Cherish that in your life, because you don't really have a long time to enjoy it. Ride that Go-kart, drink that glass of wine, hold her hand, tell her you love her, hug him and hold him, because that's what he needs. He doesn't care who's on the phone or what game you are playing, you're ignoring his needs to satisfy your own! She doesn't care that you ramble on each night, you are showing her that you love her by spending quality time with her! I consider myself as a very rich man and very fortunate that at this moment in time I have these 2 in my life and that will remain that way until the end. As you know, Gage is spending the summer with us in Maine. Tonight was one of the most enjoyable and loving nights in the 3 weeks he's been here. And a lot had to do with the fact that we cut him off from Youtube. He has been watching Minecraft Halo segments and it was driving me nuts, so we finally cut him off. Now we limit his time watching. What a difference! We played games with coins, I told him if he could count the change in my pocket, he could keep it. He eventually counted it correctly, so I gave it to him. Then it was on the table and which hand was it under! I beat him a few times, but then he beat me. Oh what joy he got out of that! Then we went fishing with a game that his Nana gave him last year. That was very much fun. He was hugging and laughing, but most of all he was interacting with us. We now have an understanding that his TV time is going to be mixed together with learning and getting ready for school again.
Gage is our main enjoyment right now and we are trying to help him through this extremely turbulent time. I feel for the parents and children out there that do not have the support that Gage has. Keep them close to you, because they do not fully understand why this is happening and they have fears that must be addressed. I was at a party today and having a good conversation with a fellow partier. We were talking about the coronavirus and the fact that they were trying to buy a house in the south and how it was all screwed up by the coronavirus. Not only that, but it's in Florida! So of course they conversation drifted to that subject and of course DJT. He had nothing good to say about tRump. If fact I was under the impression that he was possibly a never-trumper. But of course I've known this person for awhile, so I felt comfortable talking politics, because what he was saying jibed with me. Until he said "I'm going to vote for him again" which just blew my mind. " I can't vote for Biden, you know, business and all"! I walked away and then thought of all the comebacks that are usually at my disposal! GREED! it's all about the money and how the upper bracket doesn't want to share it.
